About 100 Bulgarian soldiers left to participate in KFOR - the NATO-led international peacekeeping force in Kosovo. A maneuver company was sent with a solemn ceremony held in Yambol.

The contingent is mainly from the 2nd Tundzha Mechanized Brigade and personnel from the Joint Forces Command.

The Deputy Chief of Defense Gen. Lt. Mihail Popov presented the contingent with the certificate of participation in the mission and an icon of St. George the Victorious.

The mission will last 6 months.

"Danger always exists, but there the risk is low. These are preventive actions by NATO, in order to prevent the escalation of tensions. The situation there is quite volatile and a small spark can start a serious fire. The staff is well prepared, they know exactly what tasks they will perform. I am sure that once again we will prove that we are a reliable and prepared partner," the general said.
