Elections for European Parliament and for the National Assembly of Bulgaria will be held simultaneously in this country on 9 June. President Rumen Radev announced his decision during the consultations with the political forces, after Dimitar Glavchev presented the composition of his caretaker cabinet.

Rumen Radev stated that after he signs the decrees on the caretaker cabinet, on the election for EP and the election for national parliament, early on Tuesday morning he will call on the President of the National Assembly Rosen Zhelyazkov to have the government sworn in in parliament, as stipulated in the latest amendments to the Constitution. The handover of power can take place on the same day. At the beginning of the meeting with the representatives of the political forces, President Radev pointed out that the format of the negotiations, as well as the nomination of a caretaker prime minister, is a requirement set down in the Constitution.

“The political situation calls for political responsibility and a maximum amount of efficiency from us all, because you, the parties, as well as the whole of society, are expecting clarity regarding the caretaker government and the upcoming early election for parliament, as soon as possible,” President Radev said.
