We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) proposed that the documentation on the gas transmission contract with the Turkish state-owned energy company Botas be handed over to the State Agency for National Security and the Prosecutor’s Office. "This contract is disadvantageous for Bulgaria and the state loses every day from it", said MP Radoslav Ribarski.
According to the contract, concluded by the caretaker government of Galab Donev, the state-owned company Bulgartransgaz agrees to provide Botas access to Bulgaria’s gas transmission infrastructure. However, the deal raised suspicions of violations of EU competition rules.
"Every day, the Bulgarian energy sector, and Bulgargas in particular, has to pay USD 500,000 for capacity that is not being used. For instance, in 2023, the country used one and a half ships of natural gas, whereas it could use 14. We pay the entire fees for this capacity, although we do not use it", MP Ribarski said and added that PP-DB is calling for the renegotiation of the contract.
