Both Bulgarian teams won silver medals at the European Olympiad of Experimental Science EOES 2024, held in Luxembourg from 7 to 14 April 2024, the Ministry of Education and Science said. The Bulgarian students competed with 44 teams from 23 EU Member States and a guest team from Ukraine. Each team consisted of three students under the age of 17.

The aim of the competition is to give students the opportunity to feel like 'real' researchers and to measure their scientific skills against those of other participants. Each EU Member State sends two teams of three participants to carry out two tasks that focus on skills in biology, chemistry and physics. They have to investigate a specific phenomenon in an interdisciplinary way by carrying out various laboratory experiments. The phenomenon itself is often related to ongoing scientific research.

Teams from the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Germany - both teams, Portugal, Slovenia and Hungary won gold medals.

The EOES are held annually in different EU countries. Bulgaria will host the European Olympiad in Experimental Sciences (EOES) in 2027.
