Outgoing Dutch PM backs Bulgaria for Schengen accession by land

Bulgarian Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev has met with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte, the press service of the Council of Ministers announced. The talks were held at the invitation of Rutte in the framework of the extraordinary European Council meeting in the Belgian capital. 

"This was a merit of Bulgaria, it is unacceptable not to be Schengen members also via land borders. We will also assist also in the communication with Austria for your full membership," the Dutch prime minister said after the meeting. 

Glavchev thanked the Netherlands for its support for the country's efforts to be accepted into the euro area. 

"Bulgaria can manage on its own," Rutte replied firmly.
