The Bulgarian ambassador will not attend Putin swearing-in ceremony

Due to health reasons, Bulgarian Ambassador to Russia Atanas Kristin will not attend Vladimir Putin's swearing-in ceremony for a fifth presidential term, a diplomatic source told BNR.

Earlier, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said he had sent a letter to member states not to attend the inauguration ceremony.

"The right thing is not to participate in this inauguration. My advice was not to do that and I think most member states will not participate. It will be difficult for Ukrainians and many people around the world to understand that after Putin was declared wanted by the International Criminal Court responsible for the war in Ukraine and after we contested the elections, which were neither free nor fair, we would participate in the inauguration," Borel stresses.
