Preparations for the 9 June elections are proceeding normally and on time, Deputy Chairperson and Spokesperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Rositsa Mateva told a news briefing.

She also recalled that today was the deadline for parties and coalitions to apply for cancellation of their registration for the 9 June elections.  A total of 20 parties and 10 coalitions, and one coalition for the National Assembly only, are expected to run for the European Parliament and the National Assembly.

On 8 May, a draw will be held to determine the number of tickets each party will receive for the upcoming European Parliament elections. Campaigning starts on 10 May at 00:00. The CEC has called for tolerance during the campaign.

The deadline for Bulgarian citizens abroad to submit their applications to vote is 14 May.
