Doctors have renewed the call for children without the compulsory vaccinations to not be allowed in school, or to be part of organized groups of children.
In an interview with the BNR, general practitioner Dr. Kostadin Sotirov commented on the proposal made by the Association of General Practitioners to that effect stating: “The laws have to be changed and that will have a better effect on vaccination.”
At the moment the restriction is only valid for kindergartens where unvaccinated children are only allowed for medical reasons. Some parents sign a document stating their refusal to have their child vaccinated, pay a one-time fine and that is the end of it. “The problem is with the parents doctors can’t locate,” he said. Dr. Sotirov gave as an example a child who will turn 6 this year and who is subject to revaccination for whooping cough, whose parents have been refusing all contact with the doctor since January.
