“The ruling regime in Bulgaria is trying to reformat “Victory Day” into “Europe Day” and to neglect the commitments to preserve cultural and memorial sites,” the official spokesperson of Russia’s Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated in a comment on the celebration of the 79^th anniversary of the victory over fascism in Bulgaria, BGNES reports citing Russia’s TASS news agency. “Despite the policy of the Bulgarian authorities for rewriting history, the country has preserved strong anti-fascist traditions,” Maria Zakharova states, and goes on that “hundreds of concerned citizens” gathered at 9 May celebrations organized by the Russian embassy in Sofia, Plovdiv and 50 other towns.
