Heavy rainfall expected today in 13 areas of Bulgaria

After last night's storm in Sofia, more than 18 teams of the "Emergency Assistance and Prevention" Directorate of the Capital Municipality worked throughout the night. Krasimir Dimitrov, the head of the directorate, told the BNR that the situation in the capital is normalizing. As a result of the downpour with hail, which started yesterday evening, community centers, kindergartens, ground floors were flooded, sewer shafts were blocked, trees and branches fell. There are no reports of people in distress.

According to experts, lightning activity in Bulgaria has increased almost tenfold in recent years. 

The National Meteorology Institute still warns of dangerous rainfall in 13 areas today. A yellow code for heavy rain and thunderstorms has been announced for Sofia region, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Smolyan, Vidin, Vratsa, Montana, Kyustendil, Stara Zagora, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo and Lovech.
