Over ten thousand attempts to cross the border illegally since the beginning of 2024

In the period from January to April 2024, 10,549 people attempted to enter the country illegally, the Ministry of the Interior reported on its website. Compared to the same period in 2023, when 35,377 people crossed, this is a decrease of 70.2%

The Home Office statistics also show that a total of 1,488 third-country nationals were apprehended between January and April this year. Of these, 459 were stopped at the entrance to the state border, 408 at the exit without registration and 621 were detained for illegal stay in the interior of the country. 

Compared to the same period last year, the number of arrests at entry has increased by 2.3 times and the number of arrests at exit has increased by 26.3%. In April, a total of 529 third-country nationals were apprehended: 172 at entry, 91 at exit without registration with the Ministry of the Interior and 266 for illegal stay in the interior of the country.
