The name of the village of Gara Bov, as well as the nearby village of Bov, is associated with a legend from the 13th century. In 1206, after the death of Baldwin of Flanders, the captured French knight Saint Boeuf was settled on these lands by Tsar Kaloyan. There, the Frenchman built a fortress, and to this day, both settlements keep the memory of his name.
