The deployment of Bulgarian soldiers to Ukraine has never been discussed, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said after meeting NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Sofia.

"For me, this is a typical example of a hybrid attack and disinformation. Bulgarian citizens can be reassured," the caretaker prime minister said. He said that the issues he had discussed with the NATO Secretary General were the situation in the Black Sea region and support for Ukraine. There is no alternative to the assistance already approved by Parliament, the Prime Minister made clear.

"Jens Stoltenberg said at the end of the meeting that we should help Ukraine with all our might, but no NATO country should be dragged into the war," Glavchev added. Stoltenberg told the joint press conference that he had accepted the task of improving security in the Black Sea region and the Western Balkans.

The Alliance chief is in the Bulgarian capital to attend the plenary session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly spring meeting, which Sofia is hosting from 25 to 27 May.
