Bulgaria will not send troops to Ukraine, Bulgaria's Ministry of Defence confirmed in its position and recalled that only the Parliament can decide on the participation of Bulgarian troops in operations outside the country. "Such a proposal has never been on the agenda," the ministry said.

"This hybrid war news that we are going to send troops to Ukraine has influenced a lot the candidates for military service," the interim military minister Atanas Zapryanov said at the spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Sofia.

The Ministry of Defence announcement also said that in line with a decision of the National Assembly, Bulgaria has declared participation in the European Union's training mission to assist Ukraine. The training of the personnel is taking place in Germany, Poland and other EU countries.

Within the framework of this mission, it is also envisaged to train up to 60 combat medics in Bulgaria for one year.
