Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova will be competing in the Olympic Games in Paris, the Bulgarian Tennis Federation has announced. The contestants in the singles will be announced officially on Monday, but it is clear Viktoriya Tomova will enter the contest directly.

According to the rules of the International Tennis Federation, the first 56 female contestants in the world rank list will have the right to participate, but no more than 4 per country. Because of the high number of contestants from the US, Russia, Czechia, China and Ukraine, Viktoriya Tomova, who will occupy 69th position on Monday, will be able to take part in the Olympics.

Viktoriya Tomovis the 7th tennis player from Bulgaria to have qualified for the Olympic Games, after the Maleeva sisters (Manuela, Katerina and Magdalena), Elena Pampoulova, Tsvetana Pironkova and Grigor Dimitrov. This means Bulgaria will be represented at the Paris Olympics by a female as well as a male contestant – Grigor Dimitrov.
