Bulgaria will continue to support Montenegro’s European prospect, President Rumen Radev stated after meeting with his Montenegrin counterpart Jakov Milatović in Cetinje, Montenegro’s historical and cultural capital.
In a comment on what his expectations are from the new parliament and from a prospective new government in Bulgaria with regard to the integration of the countries of the Western Balkans, Rumen Radev said: “I believe that Bulgaria will continue to uphold its policy of support for the European integration of the Western Balkans. Bulgaria is the main motor of this policy.” However, he added that the process of integration must not be subject to geostrategic circumstances only, but to the own merits principle. “Compared to all other countries of the region, Montenegro is the leading country in this process – the European Commission’s interim indicators report on chapters 23 and 24 provides the premise for speeding up the process,” Rumen Radev said, as quoted by the Bulgarian news agency BTA.
