Ukrainian man detained at Maritsa East TPP for collecting information about a foreign country

A 23-year-old man was detained on 18 June by the security guards of the Maritsa East 2 thermal power plant. The man, who identified himself with a Ukrainian identity document, was found in possession of drones, mobile phones, cameras, multiple SIM cards and memory cards, Sofia Deputy City Prosecutor Hristo Krastev told journalists. The detainee has been charged with collecting information that constitutes a state secret in order to present it to a foreign state.

The deputy city prosecutor also explained that at the moment, forensic examinations are being prepared in order to establish whether the man has yet taken photographs, what kind and whether they contain information that constitutes a state secret.

Maritsa East 2 TPP is a strategic site. It is still being established how the man infiltrated the plant.
