Bulgarian energy regulator seeks solution to compensate solar energy producers

Ivan Ivanov, chairman of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, announced that a decision would be taken today on how to compensate green energy producers. The compensation will be for the losses they have suffered due to the high price of balancing energy. This will be done by means of a compensation coefficient and not by changing the pricing method, as demanded by dissatisfied owners of photovoltaic power plants.

On 26 June, hundreds of green energy producers blocked the Ruse-Sofia road. Jordan Vatkovski of the Association of Photovoltaic Power Plant Owners told BNR that a change in the methodology for calculating the fee for balancing the energy system had led to a tenfold increase in costs for solar energy producers.
