Bulgaria’s national team of mathematics put up an excellent performance at the Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad. Six Bulgarian students returned from the event in Antalya June 25-30 with six medals, the Ministry of Education has announced.
Ninth grader Boris Markov from the Sofia secondary school of mathematics won a gold medal, eighth graders Yoana Mladenova and Hristo Balarev from the Sofia secondary school of mathematics, Bozhidar Sakarev from the First private secondary school of mathematics in Sofia and Alexander Pendov from the secondary school of mathematics in Plovdiv won 4 silver medals. Stoyan Baltov, a seventh grader from Burgas won a bronze. In the team standings Bulgaria ranked second after Turkey out of 11 countries taking part in the event. Leaders of the Bulgarian team are Miroslav Marinov and Assoc. Prof. Ivaylo Kortezov from the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics.
