Today at 13h00, the exhibition "Under the Protection of the Holy" will be opened at the National Library of Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Sofia.

The exhibition comprises 16 thematic panels with manuscripts, archival documents, old printed books and original graphics from the collections of the National Library from the 13th to the 20th century.

The exhibition focuses on the role of sacred texts in the two main religions that coexisted in the Balkans for centuries.

"The sacred texts of both Christianity and Islam serve their followers, who believe that the word of God protects from sickness and evil, gives hope in difficult times and brings salvation. Scrolls with text and images were a widespread means of personal protection and a tool for help in delicate life situations," say the organisers of the exhibition.
