Representatives of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and the University of Benghazi - the largest and oldest university in Libya, founded in 1955 - met in the second-most-populous city in Libya to discuss possibilities for cooperation. The universities plan to exchange students and lecturers and to work together on joint European projects.

The Bulgarian delegation included Associate Professor Todor Yalamov, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and Director of the AMBA-accredited MBA programme in Strategic Management, and international expert on Middle East affairs, peace ambassador and entrepreneur Anastas Terzobaliev, who initiated this cooperation. The event was hosted by Dr Eiz Eldeen Younis Aldressi, President of the University of Benghazi.

The MBA programmes of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration are attended by many students from Arab countries, as well as diplomats from the Gulf States. The University of Sofia aims to restore Bulgaria's image as an attractive educational destination for foreign students, including those from North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.
