The new Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church Daniil held talks with the Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria Yordanka Chobanova at the Synodal Palace. HE Daniil emphasized the important work of the Church in preserving man and protecting the human soul from the pernicious influences of sin.

"The Church is a key partner in the work of the European Commission and should not be neglected," the Patriarch said and expressed his wish that various useful initiatives could be implemented in the future, and that experience could be drawn for such joint activities from Bulgaria's neighbouring countries, where there is a long-standing relationship between religious institutions and Brussels.

"People need spiritual leaders because there is a great division in our society," said Chobanova.

The work of the Committee of Representatives of Orthodox Churches in the EU, in which the Bulgarian Orthodox Church also participates, was also discussed in the talks.
