Sunny Beach has overtaken the Turkish resort of Marmaris as the most affordable destination for family vacations. A study published by The Independent compared the prices of 10 essential items, including food, drinks and sunscreen products, and found out that the Bulgarian Black Sea resort offers the best value for money for British tourists in 2024.
A combination of all the ten items cost £110 to a British family in Sunny Beach. In this regard, the Bulgarian resort is ahead not only of Marmaris, but also of other budget destinations for family vacations such as Ibiza, Algarve, Lanzarote, etc. This is the reason why many British chose Bulgaria this summer, it becomes clear from the article of The Independent.

Although prices in Sunny Beach have risen by 9.8% year-on-year, the analysis shows that tourists can save significant money on their holiday here compared to Marmaris, which topped the list of the most budget-friendly family destinations in 2023. For example, a beer in Sunny Beach costs £1.50 less than that in the Turkish resort, a bottle of sunscreen is £4.23 cheaper, and a three-course family meal with wine and soft drinks is £4.23 cheaper in comparison to Marmaris. So, if a family dines out every night for a week, it will cost £29.61 less in Sunny Beach than in the Turkish resort.
Both destinations offer child-friendly activities alongside beautiful beaches. Sunny Beach boasts a long, sandy coastline perfect for building sandcastles and splashing in the waves, The Independent reads.
The article warns tourists planning to have holiday in Ibiza that they will have to spend quite a bit more, as the average cost of the 10 items is double that of the same items in Sunny Beach. The Balaeriac islands are listed as the most expensive destination among all 16 countries included in the study.
