Greece approves extradition of a Bulgarian to USA over charges of smuggling banned products to Russia

Greece will extradite to the USA a Bulgarian arrested on charges of creating and participating in a criminal group for smuggling. The Greek Supreme Court has confirmed the extradition of the Bulgarian citizen who was detained in Serres, the correspondent of BNR in Greece, Katya Peeva has reported.

The Bulgarian was wanted with an Interpol’s "red notice" for smuggling goods from the USA through Bulgaria to Russia. According to the Greek authorities, the Bulgarian, whose name has not been reported, imported integrated circuits and other electronic elements from the USA, which he bought at the expense of a Bulgarian company. He then sold the elements to Russia without the manufacturers' permission, violating US export bans imposed on Moscow. The Greek Supreme Court rejected the defendant's claim that the extradition violated his right to a fair trial.
