Old Bulgarian is taught at Bachelor's and Master's level in Sweden

The University of Gothenburg is perhaps the only university in the world where classical Old Bulgarian is a separate discipline. This is reported by the newspaper "Az-Buki" in its latest issue.

Classical Old Bulgarian is studied neither within Bulgarian philology nor within Slavic philology, reports BTA. Students of Classical Old Bulgarian study only Old Bulgarian for three years and receive a bachelor's degree after defending a thesis. They can then spend another two years studying for a master's degree.

Speaking to the newspaper "Az-Buki", Assoc. Prof. Antoaneta Granberg said that there were also doctoral students. One of them - the youngest - will focus on the translation of the Glagolitic language. Assoc. Prof. Granberg has students from all over Scandinavia, and sometimes even from Germany and the USA, because Old Bulgarian cannot be taught universally at all levels of education. The courses are online, which helps to attract more students.
