Two Bulgarian military helicopters will today help to extinguish the fire burning on the Slavyanka mountain on the border between Bulgaria and Greece.

Yesterday the forest fire in Greece reached and crossed the border. On Bulgarian territory it is a surface fire and has so far affected about 3 hectares. Since the early hours of this morning, 30 Bulgarian firefighters and forestry officials have been on the scene to fight the elements.

Katya Trencheva, BNR's correspondent in Blagoevgrad, reports that the fire is mainly burning tree trunks and low vegetation. At the most critical moment yesterday, two Greek and one Bulgarian helicopter joined the aerial fire-fighting effort and the situation was brought under control, but not for long as night fell.

The fire is now in its second week on Greek territory.
