Domestic violence victims up by 84.9% in the space of one year

More people were subjected to domestic violence in 2023 than during the previous year, shows an analysis which is part of a project by the National Programme for Prevention and Protection against Domestic Violence for the period from 2024 until 2026. A total of 2,211 people suffered domestic violence – of them 1,971 women, as compared to 736 in 2022. 76 girls under the age of 18 have been victims of domestic violence, and 46 boys. According to the report on the work of the Interior Ministry last year, the number of domestic violence victims has gone up by 84.9% compared to the previous year, and the clearance rate stands at 52.4% - 6.4% up on 2022. Three premeditated murders have been registered, as compared to one a year earlier, 823 people suffered injuries, 3 more than in 2022. The number of convicted perpetrators is up by 58.5% up compared to the previous year.
