Air quality indicators in Plovdiv and the surrounding villages are now back to normal, after the air over Plovdiv was filled with smoke from the wildfire which broke out at the landfill next to the village of Tsalapitsa on Thursday night, regional governor Hristina Yancheva has announced. Nevertheless, she advised the people living in the area to continue to follow the instructions of the Regional Health Inspectorate.

Yesterday, the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water registered a 7-fold increase in particulate matter levels and advised people to stay indoors. The fire has almost been contained, more than half of the territory has already been processed and the fire smothered with dirt, the regional governor said further. The landfill wildfire is expected to be fully extinguished by tonight.
