A plasterboard ceiling of a wedding hall came crashing down on top of 150 guests in Kardzhali. Seven people have sustained non-life threatening injuries during the incident which took place on Monday night, among them one child. At the time of the incident – 7.30 PM – there was heavy rain over Kardzhali. “All of a sudden water started pouring out of the openings for the lamps, and minutes later the ceiling came crashing down. People were pushing against one another to get out,” one witness told Radio Kardzhali, BNR.

The initial police inspection showed that the roof has caved in. Three people have been detained as pre-trial proceedings begin, the regional police directorate has announced. Two men, aged 52 and 57, and one woman, aged 46, have been detained for causing medium bodily injury due to negligence of their duties or ignorance.
