The world champion and record holder in ice swimming and one of the most successful open water swimmers, Tsanko Tsankov, is preparing for a historic swim in the waters of the Danube River. At the beginning of September, the thirty seven-year-old Bulgarian will swim 100 kilometers without rest between Vidin and Kozloduy.

This will be his first time swimming in freshwater. According to Tsanko Tsankov, swimming in freshwater has its peculiarities. ''There are no big waves or strong currents there. We will use the natural current of the river, which at this time of year is about 4 km per hour", said Tsanko Tsankov. Currently, the champion is training in the sea near Tsarevo.
