Representatives of Bulgargaz and the Turkish company BOTAŞ held another round of negotiations in Sofia regarding the agreement between the two companies. Earlier, the National Assembly mandated the Minister of Energy to renegotiate the agreement in order to preserve the financial stability of Bulgargaz. The management of the company will inform the Minister of Energy about the results of the meeting as soon as possible, the state gas supplier Bulgargaz told the media.

Under the agreement signed in early 2023 by Galab Donev's caretaker cabinet, Bulgaria committed to paying over 4 billion BGN (more than EUR 2 billion) for reserving access to Turkish LNG terminals, even if no gas is imported from Turkiye. In an interview with BNT today, Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov stated that Bulgaria will definitely try to to renegotiate the financial and economic terms of the contract with BOTAŞ, whose implementation is now a serious financial burden for Bulgargaz. He noted that the gas supplier is in a difficult financial situation, with losses of about 200 million BGN for the first half of the year.
