The Shabla lighthouse, which has been operating since 1856, opens its doors to visitors today on the occasion of World Lighthouse Day.
The facility is the oldest and the highest (32 meters high) in the country and its light can be seen 17 nautical miles away in the Black Sea, its long-time keeper Nanyo Nanev said.
During the day of open doors, visitors will see the structure of the tower from the inside, which has withstood several earthquakes, as well as used generators, the old lighthouse lamp and photographs. Visitors are also able to take pictures on the balcony on the first floor.
