MEP asks European Commission about alleged biased inspections against DPS-run municipalities

MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk has sent written questions to the European Commission regarding reports of large-scale biased inspections by the General Directorate for Combating Organised Crime, the Anti-Corruption Commission, the National Revenue Agency and other state bodies in municipalities run by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS). These inspections have also allegedly targeted the homes of party members and activists.

"These actions raise concerns about the abuse of power and the use of state institutions as instruments of pressure in the run-up to the early parliamentary elections," Kyuchyuk said.

Ilhan Kyuchyuk asks whether the European Commission is aware of these actions by state authorities against party representatives, and whether it will take action to stop the alleged abuses and seek explanations from Bulgaria about these events.

In recent days, DPS politicians close to honorary leader Ahmed Dogan have suggested that these inspections may be linked to the influence of party co-leader Delyan Peevski.
