Bulgaria and Turkey register 70% drop in migrant flow

As a result of the enhanced dialogue and actions by the competent bodies in Bulgaria and Turkey, a 70% drop in the migrant flow has been registered, the Interior Ministry’s press service has announced. Caretaker Minister of Interior Atanas Ilkov discussed, with the ambassador of Turkey to this country Mehmet Sait Uyanik, the security measures along the border between the two countries, combatting drug trafficking and the reconstruction of the Kapitan Andreevo border check point, the press release reads. The Turkish ambassador thanked the Bulgarian Interior Ministry for cutting off drug trafficking routes from and towards Europe, including by air.

Emphasis was also laid on the good joint organization for the unobstructed passage across Kapitan Andreevo border check point, where a record number of passenger vehicles have been registered this year – 5,000-9,000 a day in the direction of Turkey and 3,500-5,500 in the direction of Bulgaria. In connection with this, a project was discussed for the overall reconstruction and renovation of the border check point. Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov has invited Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya to visit Bulgaria, the Interior Ministry says.
