Niagara Falls was illuminated in the colours of the Bulgarian national flag on the occasion of the Day of the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia.

''The ideas bequeathed to us by the activists of the Unification, continuing the legacy of the Apostle of Freedom, Vasil Levski, remain our values today as we build a democratic European Bulgaria. The lessons of patriotism from the decisive days of 1885 remind us that 'Unity Makes Strength'', the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Toronto wrote on Facebook.

One of Canada's largest cities is a new home for thousands of Bulgarians, both from the recent wave of emigration after the changes of 1989, and from earlier settlers from Aegean and Vardar Macedonia in the early 20th century, reported BGNES.
