Civil activists await Europe's response to changes in the Education Act

More than 160 Bulgarian civil organizations, including the National Network for Children, have sent an open letter to a number of European institutions, organizations, embassies and diplomatic missions regarding the legislative changes banning propaganda for non-traditional sexual orientation in schools, initiated by the Vazrazhdane party. The letter states that the legislative amendments threaten democracy, freedom of speech and human rights.

"Never in the 18-year history of our organization has anyone ever reported to us that in a Bulgarian classroom or elsewhere children were being exposed to propaganda about gender change or anything similar, as mentioned in these legislative proposals. Such a problem simply does not exist. The pattern is as follows – you create or fabricate a problem, fuel panic, fear, division, anti-democratic and anti-European sentiments, and in the end, you ''scoop up the political cream'', commented Georgi Elenkov, Child Policies Director at the National Network for Children.
