The European Commission has approved the transfer of EUR 90 million that remained unused by Bulgaria during the previous financial period under the Rural Development Program, said caretaker Minister of Agriculture, Georgi Tahov, who participated in the Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting in Brussels.
“This is good news - more than BGN 200 million are going to Bulgarian agriculture", the minister commented.
Georgi Tahov justified Bulgaria’s request for the European Commission to ban the import of Ukrainian eggs into the country with the fact that over 2.6 million eggs were imported in the first six months of the year - five times more in comparison to the same period last year. According to him, eggs are sold at below-market prices and this leads to tension and bankruptcies in the "Poultry" sector.
"We firmly support the people of Ukraine, but this should in no way lead to bankruptcies and violate the rights of our farmers," the Minister of Agriculture said.
