The LNG terminal near the Greek town of Alexandroupolis has officially srarted commercial operations today, the Greek company Gastrade announced. The facility features state-of-the-art technology with a maximum regasification capacity of 5.5 billion cubic meters per year. A total of 14 Greek and international companies are participating in the project, committing almost all of the terminal's capacity until at least 2030.
The volumes from the LNG terminal can provide natural gas supplies to Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, North Macedonia and Serbia, as well as to Moldova and Ukraine to the east, and Hungary and Slovakia to the northwest. BTA recalls that the Bulgarian gas transmission operator Bulgartransgaz is a shareholder in the LNG terminal with a share of 20%.
