Sofia urges EC to change mechanism for 'Ukrainian aid' to farmers

Bulgaria will continue to lobby the European Commission to change the conditions for the allocation of funds under the so-called "Ukrainian aid", Agriculture Minister Georgi Tahov said at a meeting with industry organisations.

Many farmers who have reached the current eligibility limit cannot receive support, and their livestock, permanent crops and greenhouses are already excluded.

Bulgaria is therefore proposing several options for reform. The first is to abolish the individual ceiling. The other option is to double the current ceiling to €560,000 or to make payments on an annual basis. The issue has been discussed at the EU Council of Agriculture Ministers. The proposals have been supported by other countries and the search for a solution will continue, said Tahov.
