Citizens protest against the election of chief prosecutor

Hundreds of citizens protested in the so-called triangle of power in Sofia, where the buildings of the National Assembly, the Council of Ministers and the Presidency are located, with the request for termination of the procedure for the election of Prosecutor General.

"For the second time in a row there is only one candidate for the position of chief prosecutor and once again we see a laureate of the Higher Institute of the Ministry of Interior. We have nothing against this institute, but let it prepare personnel for the Ministry of Intior, the police or the fight against crimes, but not for the prosecutor's office", said Emil Georgiev from the "Justice for All" Initiative, organizer of the protest under the title "#Who is regrouping the chief prosecutors".

"I protest because there is only one candidate and that he is extremely unsuitable. Look at his education, look at his work, look at his actions,” another protester said.

The people who gathered at the protest started a petition to stop the procedure.

At its last meeting, the Plenum of the Supreme Judicial Council nominated Borislav Sarafov, who performs the functions of chief prosecutor after the early release of Ivan Geshev. Although the council's mandate has expired, it must elect new chief prosecutor on January 16 next year.
