The Sofia City Court has overturned the dismissal of director Alexander Morfov by the general director of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre. The renowned Bulgarian theatre and cinema director was reinstated as "chief director" and the National Theatre will pay him a fine of 800 leva (400 euro), the court ruled on October 14.

The National Theatre must also pay a second fine of 160 leva to the Sofia District Court. The decision can be appealed to the Sofia City Court within two weeks, bTV reported.

In early March 2023, Morfov was fired by the theatre's director, Vasil Vassilev, following a dispute between the director and the theatre's PR manager, Velislava Krasteva. Protest marches in support of Morfov followed.
