Bulgaria ranks 52nd in the world in terms of economic freedom in 2024, according to the latest survey by the Canadian Fraser Institute, the Institute for Market Economics (IME) reported.

The study measures the degree of economic freedom in 165 countries around the world. Bulgaria's lowest score is for the legal system and the rule of law, and in this category it lags behind all other EU member states from Central and Eastern Europe. The study also records a significant drop in the score for monetary stability, as a result of high inflation in 2022 and 2023. Hong Kong, Singapore and Switzerland top the ranking for economic freedom.

In the same ranking for 2023, Bulgaria ranked 43rd out of 165 countries and territories.
