World and European champion Kamelia Dunavska organised in the town of Samokov an international rhythmic gymnastics tournament called "The Golden Girls... Forever". The competition starts today and will last until Sunday. Almost 500 young athletes from 12 countries are taking part.

"We have invited many recent Olympic, world and European champions so that the children can see them. I don't think you can give a better example than that," said Dunavska, one of Bulgaria's so-called "Golden Girls" - rhythmic gymnasts from 1967 to 1999.

"I want the young generation to be inspired and proud of what Bulgaria has achieved in this sport," she added.

During the tournament there will be a gala show with the participation of Paris 2024 Olympic champion Darja Varfolomeev from Germany and European champion Stiliana Nikolova.

Kamelia Dunavska's ambition is to hold the tournament every year and to include ensembles as well as individual gymnasts.
