State-owed natural gas supplier Bulgargaz has hired a legal councillor to defend the interests of the Bulgarian gas company in connection with the contract for natural gas storage and supply with the Turkish-owned company BOTAŞ.
The contract stipulates that BOTAŞ shall receive daily payments of almost USD 500,000 even though it is not making any gas deliveries. This was made clear in the answer given by caretaker Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov to a question by independent MP Kaloyan Metodiev. A meeting between the two gas companies took place in Istanbul on 15 October. The Turkish company is demanding payment but Bulgargaz has not been paying since July. Bulgargaz has informed BOTAŞ several times it is refraining from payment but has received no answer, just new invoices, BGNES news agency reports.
