Gallup International Balkan:

More than half a million Bulgarian voters open to selling their vote

Photo: gallup-international.bg

According to a survey by Gallup International Balkan, one tenth of respondents admit that they would accept to vote in exchange for money, other incentives or coercion, 78 per cent deny it and 12 per cent say they cannot decide. This means that more than 500,000 eligible voters are willing to sell their vote.

Sociologists stress, however, that the data obtained is declarative and the sincerity of those who responded could be questioned. Nevertheless, the results provide a basis for further in-depth analysis of the issue, including what lies behind the 'don't know' response of 12 per cent of respondents, Gallup International Balkan said in its announcement. The pollster described the data as "worrying" in the context of declining voter turnout.

The poll was conducted between 28 September and 6 October 2024 among 806 people using the 'face-to-face' method with tablets. It was commissioned by the public broadcaster BNT. The sample is representative of the adult population of the country.
