The music of world-famous Bulgarian composer and pianist Milcho Leviev will be performed tonight (October 28) in Bulgaria Hall in Sofia. The "Legend of Milcho" concert of the "Sofia Soloists" Chamber Ensemble under the baton of Konstantin Dobroikov is with the special participation of famous musicians like Vicky Almazidu - vocals, Antoni Donchev - piano, Valeri Kostov - electronic piano. They will present the original music theme from the 1966 film Monday Morning.
With its pronounced jazz sound this music became an expression of personal freedom and one of the reasons why the film was banned until 1988. In order to be able to perform it as an independent work, Milcho Leviev changed the title to "Workday Morning" and thus the music received its new, stage and film-independent life. A few years later, Milcho Leviev emigrated to the USA and his name as the author of the music in the captions of a number of Bulgarian films was deleted.
In 2023, an album was released with new interpretations of Milcho Leviev's film music and song versions based on lyrics by Viki Almazidu and Zlatna Kostova. Five of the songs will be presented in the concert, including "Monday Morning".
One of the interviews for Radio Bulgaria from October 2014 also preserves the memory of the world-famous jazz musician, composer, arranger and pianist Milcho Leviev:
