Today, 3 November, is International Day for Biosphere Reserves, declared by UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere programme. On this occasion, as of the second half of October, the regional departments of the Ministry of Environment and Water launched a series of events and initiatives.

Four biosphere parks were declared in Bulgaria in 2017 –Central Balkan, Red Wall, Srebarna and Uzunbudzhak. The aim is to promote sustainable economic development in these regions, based on clean and preserved nature, and to boost the production and sale of certified local products.

The International Day for Biosphere Reserves popularizes the opportunities these territories offer, and the idea of finding a balance between nature and humans.
