Chess player Nurgyul Salimova wins first game at Grand Prix in Kazakhstan

Nurgyul Salimova scored her first victory at the Grand Prix chess tournament in the Kazakh city of Shymkent. In an eighth-round match, she defeated Mongolia's Batkhuyag Munguntuul with the black pieces. Salimova took the initiative from the start and scored on move 50. Nurgyul now has 3 points with two rounds to go.

In round nine, the Bulgarian will play with the white pieces against the Russian Aleksandra Goryachkina. Goryachkina defeated Salimova in the 2023 World Championship final in Baku.
