Ivan Cheparinov scored a victory in the eighth round of the European Individual Chess Championship in Petrovac, Montenegro. The Bulgarian grandmaster played with the black pieces and secured a brilliant win over Ukrainian Ihor Samunenkov.

The Bulgarian chess player, born in the town of Asenovgrad, has 6.5 points and ranks second in the standing. He is now just half a point behind the leader, Aleksandar Indjić from Serbia, who has 7 points.

There are three rounds remaining in the European Individual Chess Championship in Petrovac. A total of 388 chess players are participating in the tournament.
