Due to the poor condition of the water transmission network, nearly half a billion cubic meters of water are irretrievably lost annually. On this occasion, Caretaker Environment Minister Petar Dimitrov called for work to improve and repair the water transmission network with the funds allocated under European projects.
In some places, as much as 80 to 90% of the water is lost and serious investments are needed to improve the infrastructure.

Currently, there is access to over 3.5 billion euros until 2026 for municipal projects under the program of the Ministry of Regional Development and Water to reduce losses in the water transmission network.

Over 700 settlements had periods of an introduced regime of water rationing last year
The situation on the Southern Black Sea Coast, as well as in the Pleven and Lovech regions, continues to be severe. The Minister of the Environment has warned that if measures are not taken, a problem is expected with the water supply of the town of Pernik and the Studena dam will not be sufficient.
According to information from the Ministry of Environment and Water, repairs to the Aheloy and Poroy water reservoirs, which should be used for alternative power supply to the Southern Black Sea coast, are also being delayed due to insufficient water in the Kamchia dam.
